5 students held for int’l drug racket
Five students from Hyderabad along with a Ghana national were arrested by the city police on Friday and seized 48 grams of cocaine, 207 stamps of LSD (Lysergic acid diethylamide) and 10 grams of charas from them.
Hyderabad: Five students from Hyderabad along with a Ghana national were arrested by the city police on Friday and seized 48 grams of cocaine, 207 stamps of LSD (Lysergic acid diethylamide) and 10 grams of charas from them.
Based on a tip-off, in a joint operation by the Anti-Narcotic Cell, Central Crime Station and Task Force Police, Akshay Kannoli (18), a student from Secunderabad and a native of Kerala; Shishir Chauhan (21), a student from RK Puram; P Rahul Sunny (18) and Kapish Agarwal (19), students from St Mary’s Degree College in Yousufguda; and A Rohith Rao (23), engineer student from Maturi Venkata Subba Rao (MVSR) Engineering College in Nadergul and a resident of Bagh Amberpet were arrested.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Akshay had been to Goa in 2014, where he was introduced to drugs. Since then, Akshay used to visit Goa and bring the drugs to Hyderabad and circulate it among his friends at college and other places. Akshay used to purchase one LSD drug stamp for Rs 600 and sell it in Hyderabad for Rs 1,600 to Rs 1,700.
Meantime, he was introduced to Shishir and then to his friends Rahul, Kapish and Rohit. All formed a gang and supplied drugs targeting youngsters and college goers.
In 2015, the accused met Adefule Michael (37) of Sainikpuri, who supplies cocaine, LSDs and Charas to customers in Hyderabad. Based on their confession, Michael was taken into custody and he confessed that he had come to India in 2012 on business visa and had been into drug peddling since then. Michael told the police that Peter, a foreign national living in Mumbai, supplies him the drugs and he sells it in Hyderabad.
During investigation, it was revealed that they have been supplying narcotic and psychotropic drugs to a pub in The Park Hotel in Somajiguda, The Farm Hotel in Jubilee Hills, Leonia Resort in Shamirpet and Rendezvous Pub in Gachibowli.
Further investigation is on to unearth the network with local and foreign drug dealers in Hyderabad.
