The Collector held a meeting in his chamber on Friday with the representatives of political parties recognised by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to discuss about the arrangements, directions of the Election Commission and about the cooperation of political parties for the MLC elections to be held in December.

Addressing the participants, the District Collector said the ECI will release the notification for local body (MLC) elections on December 2. ZPTCs, MPTCs, Municipal Councillors, Ward members of City Panchayats, MLAs and Ex-officio members are eligible to vote in these elections.

There are 326 voters in 17 mandals in Khammam division, 224 voters in 11 mandals in Kothagudem division, 98 voters in 8 mandals in Palvancha division and 45 voters in 5 mandals in Bhadrachalam division. Lokesh said a report was sent to ECI for including 13 MPTCs and one ZPTC of Bhadrachalam mandal along with 16 MPTCs and one ZPTC of Burgampadu mandal in the voters list.

The Election commission will take the decision on the basis of their nativity. Further action will be taken only after the Election commission takes a decision. Since the model code came into effect with the announcement, all the political parties must campaign as per the instructions given by the ECI, the Collector said.

To implement the election code perfectly in every mandal, one flying squad along with Static Surveillance groups will be set up under the leadership of Tahsildar or mandal level officer. The Collector urged the representatives of all political parties to cooperate for smooth conduct of the elections in the district.

The representatives of the political parties suggested the Collector to set up more polling stations in Khammam and Kothagudem divisions, keeping in view large number of voters present in these two divisions.

Responding to their suggestion, the Collector said that he will take the proposal to the notice of the ECI. Joint Collector K Babu Rao, G Vidya Sagar (BJP), N Nageshwar Rao (CPM), B Naga Chandra Reddy (TRS), M Vasanth Kumar (YSRCP) and J Das Mohan Raj (BSP)were present along with others.
