Warangal: Soon, the Warangal Police are just a tap away on your smart phone. The City Police Commissionerate, which has earned the distinction of first NBW-free city in the country a few months ago, has set its eyes on launching a mobile phone app to reach out to people in distress in the quickest possible time.

Not content with the success of SHE teams and ‘beat tracking system’ by the Blue Colts in tri-cities of Warangal, Hanamkonda and Kazipet, the police now want to add a citizen-friendly smart phone app with advanced features for the safety of women. The app would be developed on the lines of ‘Hawk Eye’ app launched by the Hyderabad Police last year.

The app will have features for women’s safety while on travel such as a SOS button for accessing help in emergencies. The app is also expected to feature a facility to report crimes, and traffic updates and traffic violations besides a host of other features like crime alerts, complaints and their status.

With a view to turn the city into smart, connected and secure place for the women, the city police led by Commissioner G Sudheer Babu had a long discussion with the Hyderabad-based software experts on Saturday to make the app more effective with impetus on turning common people into Citizen Police and involve them into checking crimes.

The viewpoint of the Commissioner is to make the City safer, especially re-instilling the confidence of security among the women.
The app is also expected to provide a facility inviting suggestions from public for improving policing and other measures to be taken for accessing help quickly in the event of a crime or in emergency situations. The new mobile application will also be linked to Facebook accounts of all police stations in the Commissionerate.

It may be mentioned here that by executing a whopping 1,070 Non-Bailable Warrants (NBWs), Warangal became first NBW-free city in the country. Of the total, at least 80 NBWs have been pending for over a decade.
