Drunken drivers get jail
Third and fourth Metropolitan Magistrate courts on Monday awarded various terms of imprisonment to 126 persons for the offence of drunk driving.
Hyderabad: Third and fourth Metropolitan Magistrate courts on Monday awarded various terms of imprisonment to 126 persons for the offence of drunk driving.
During the drive against drunk driving under 17 traffic police station limits in Hyderabad Commissionerate between November 20 and 27, the police booked 595 cases against the drivers.
They were all given counselling at Traffic Training Institutes at Begumpet and Goshamahal. Later they were produced in the courts.
The courts sentenced all of them to various terms of imprisonment, ranging between one day and seven days depending on the severity of the cases. The courts also imposed penalty of Rs 2,000 on all the drink-drivers.
Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Jitender explained that since January this year, as many as 14,518 persons were caught during the drive. The courts imposed jail terms on 2,672 drink-drivers.
