Mercedes X-Class pick up revealed
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its first ever pick up truck, the X-Class in South Africa. The Mercedes X-Class pick up will not be coming to India any time soon. Pick up trucks are in good demand in overseas markets and seems Mercedes too wants a share of that market. The German automaker is the first ever luxury car manufacturer to have launched a pick up truck in the recent times.

Pick up trucks are in good demand in overseas markets and seems Mercedes too wants a share of that market. The German automaker is the first ever luxury car manufacturer to have launched a pick up truck in the recent times. The styling and design cues are reminiscent of the concept car.
A twin-slat grille with the 3-pointed star logo, a huge chunk of black cladding in the lower bumper dominate the front end. The X-Class makes use of a 4-door crew cab with a separate chassis. The talking point here has to be the loading bay or the cargo bay which can carry up to 1042 kgs. The cargo bay itself measures 1587 mm in length, 1560 mm in width and 474 mm in height.
The cargo bay gets load securing points as standard. Other optional items include a styled body colour rear canopy, a plastic load-bed liner, a bed-divider system, soft and hard tonneau covers, aluminium roll-top cover, a roll over loop and a three-piece detachable stainless steel underguard.
Interiors are typical Mercedes that feel premium but the dashboard feels a tad bit plain.
However, the X-Class gets a 5.4-inch COMAND infotainment system with an array of connectivity options. The X-Class will be offered with twodiesel and one petrol engine options. The diesel trims are X220d and X250d producing 163 HP and 190 HP respectively and the petrol is a 165 HP unit. A V6 diesel engine producing 258 HP and 550 Nm of torque will be launched sometime in mid-2018.
These engines will come with a choice of either a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic gearbox. The X220d and X250d will be offered with a selectable 4WD, while the V6 has a permanent 4WD system. A differential lock on the rear axle will be optional. The X-Class also gets safety equipment like Active Brake Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Traffic Sign Assist and 360-degree cameras. The Mercedes-Benz X-Class will come in three variants- Pure, Progressive and Power.
