As part of the celebrations of World Physiotherapy Day on September 8, the Prakasam district Physiotherapists Association organised a 2K Walk to create awareness on health on Thursday in Ongole. The walk with a tagline of ‘Movement for Health’, from district collectorate to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences was flagged off by the MLC Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy and chairman of RIMS Development Committee Dr K Seetharamaiah.

The Andhra Pradesh Physiotherapists Association co-ordinator Dr Kadiyala Venu explained the MLC and Chairman of RIMS the need of a council for them. He also requested them to take initiation in addressing the issues being faced by the physiotherapists.

Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy said, “Physiotherapy is being treated as an important department in the modern medical field. I personally know the importance of physiotherapy as it is the treatment method which made me walk normally again. I understand that a council is necessary to the physiotherapists and work for it in my capacity. I appreciate the efforts of the physiotherapists to create awareness on the physiotherapy and being fit to the public with the 2K Walk.”

Dr Seetharamaiah said that the need of physiotherapy has increased nowadays and the department should be included in every hospital. Dr Gurrala Raj Vimal, president of the district association shared the wishes for the World Physiotherapists Day and said, “With physiotherapy, we could bring the children with physical and mental ailments to normal condition. The role of physiotherapists is increased in the heart surgeries now.

But a number of physiotherapists are unemployed in the state, even though they have completed the course with merit. The government should introduce physiotherapy in all PHCs so that the unemployment can be addressed to an extent.

At the same time, the government should sanction the pending salaries immediately to the contract physiotherapists working in various hospitals.”

Senior physiotherapist Dr Ayyappa, honorary president Dr Harikishore, vice president Dr Srikanth, secretary Dr Muneer Ahmed, treasurer Dr Sudheer and other physiotherapists along with the students participated in the walk.
