Kakinada: Joint Collector A Mallikarjuna, distributed Chandranna Kanuka kits to people of the Christian community, in connection with ensuing Christmas festival here on Friday.
Later, speaking to reporters, he said that the government was distributing as many as 4,202,594 Chandranna Kanuka kits to Christians who were below poverty line in the district.

The district was having a total number of 16,15,134 BPL card holders, including white ration cards, Annapurna, Antyodaya etc. Of the total, there were 4,02,594 Christians who were below poverty line.The cost of each kit was Rs 244 which contains six variety of material such as 1kg wheat powder, 500 gms Bengalgram, 500 gms redgram, 500 gms jaggery, half litre palmolen and 100 ml of ghee.

The government distributed the kits wishing them to celebrate Christmas happily and the government was giving Chandranna Kanuka kits from 2015 relating to Ramzan, Sankranthi and Christmas festivals.

District Civil Supplies officer A Krishna Rao, information department deputy director M Francis and others were present.
