Kakinada: Eye donation is an appreciable act because it would give sight to another person, said TDP leader and District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee member Dhulipudi Venkataramana (Bobby).

Participating in an eye donation camp here on Friday, he said eye donation should be encouraged by the government. “Human beings cannot produce or invent artificial eye that can match the natural eye. One cannot purchase the cornea of the eyes,” he said.

Bobby said that there was a misunderstanding in society that the eyes completely removed from the dead if anyone donates eyes. Only cornea would be collected from the eyes, he said and appreciated the noble act of donation of the cornea of an uneducated woman Undru Sattemma (80) who died at Pedapeta village of Tallarevu mandal on Friday. He informed that the eyes of Sattemma were donated to the Badam Bala Krishna Eye Bank in Kakinada.

Bobby said that her grandson Pulagala Ravi Kumar, cooperated with the eye bank staff in donating the cornea. Bobby described that the deceased Sattemma did not die but she lives twice by donating her eyes. Former Sarpanch Dunna Satyanarayana, Dunna Murali, Guttula Yedukondalu, Undru China Babu and others participated in the eye donating event.
