Rajamahendravaram: By next fiscal, ONGC would be drilling three HPHT wells in Nagayalanka by investing around 420 crores in Nagayalanka field. All the required production technologies and systems are hired from the global players to start comprehensive production from the Nagayalanka field by Feburary 2019 informed Mr S K Moitra, Director (Onshore) ONGC on the occasion of inauguration of two-day conclave on Challenges in High Pressure and High Temperature (HPHT) oil fields and a Way forward organised by ONGC Rajahmundry Asset in the company premises today.

According to preliminary estimates, the Nagayalanka field holds 450 cubic metres of oil and 1.5 lakh standard cubic metres of gas per day, he added.

Temperature of more than 300 Fahrenheit is a major challenge for the Exploration and Production Industry at the global level, said S K Moitra. Elaborating further, he said, non-availability of equipment to withstand such high temperatures while bringing out the gas from deeper layers (5000-6000 metres) of earth is a major challenge. Nagayalanka in Krishna District in Andhra Pradesh is one of the challenging HPHT field and prospective hydrocarbon field, he added. ONGC in partnership with Vedanta is successful in making the production possible without compromising on the safety and environment.

In the next three years, ONGC has planned to drill 24 HPHT onland Wells in KG Basin by spending Rs 2000 Crores. The company has plans to invest 5.4 Billion Dollars in KG Offshore 98/2 block in cluster- 2.

Answering a query on HPHT reserves in AP he said, India has 350 MMt (million metric tonnes of Oil + Oil equivalent Gas) reserves. The KG Basin Onland has 92 MMT reserves. Bantumilli – South and Nagayalanka are the two prominent fields in Krishna District and West Godavari districts in Andhra Pradesh.

The conclave has been conducted in response to the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s recommendation to the central Government PSUs to conduct the board meetings and conferences in small towns to give a corporate and possible international exposure.

In the current conclave, 15 international companies have participated and for the first time Skype was used to get global presentations on the subject to the local participants, Moitra informed.

With the addition of Nagayalanka Field’s oil to the Asset’s production, the oil production per day would be increased from the 850 tons per day to 1000 tons per day.

The present conclave is aimed to harness the advance technology to exploit the HPHT Hydrocarbon resources in the region by fast tracking the drilling operations in the coming years. Fifteen national and international service providers possessing expertise in logging, drilling, cementing mud engineering are participating in the two-day event.
