Eluru: The farmers staged a dharna at district collectorate on Monday demanding the government to save their crops from the pollution of South Star Ceramic factory.

The farmers led by Andhra Pradesh Koulu Rythu Sangham (APKRS) in the morning reached Collectorate and started dharna. They raised slogans against the South Star Ceramics factory.

APKRS district secretary K Srinivas, while addressing the people said that due to the pollution from the South Star Ceramics factory, the farmers in Timmapuram village of Dwaraka Tirumala mandal incurred huge losses. The farmers met the district collector three months back and represented on the pollution, he added.

Even the collector directed the Pollution Control Board (PCB), the management did not respond to the show cause notice of the board. CPM district committee member R Lingaraju alleged that the ceramics management has violated all the pollution board rules and regulations.

He demanded the government to pay compensation to the farmers who lost their orchards and crops.The victim-farmers Adhikarla Satya Ashok Kumar, Bokka Satyanarayana, P Gandhi and others participated in the dharna.
