Parvathipuram (Vizianagaram): A private school declared a holiday on Monday after the students who were exposed to high power high mass lights during a music concert on the New Year eve complained of irritation in the eyes and swelling. While about 450 students attended the concert, 350 students reportedly complained of problems in eyes.

The incident happened at a private school in Parvathipuram on Sunday night. The eyes of the children became reddish and they started shedding tears. But the management of the school in a bid to shield itself from any criticism announced holiday to the school on Monday.

However, some of the parents have approached the school and questioned the management over the issue. RDO of Parvathipuram P Sudarsan Dora also visited the school along with doctors and reviewed the situation.

The doctors provided the required treatment to the students at the school. Around 450 students have attended the music concert organised in the school premises on the night of December 31 to welcome the New Year. The students had enjoyed the function in which the management arranged the high powered colourful lights and laser rays too.

The children were exposed to high powered electric lights and after the function they went to their dormitories. But on Monday morning around 350 children found difficulty to open their eyes which became red.

Some of the children met the management and explained their problem but the caretaker did not respond in a proper manner. However, the parents who received the information rushed to the school and questioned the management.

On learning about the incident, the District Collector directed the RDO of Parvathipuram to rush to the school and find out the facts. RDO P Sudarsan Dora, MEO P Krishna Murthy and Circle Inspector G Rambabu visited the school and interacted with the students to secure the details.
