Addressing a press conference at Dasari Nagabhushan Rao Bhavan here on Monday, Obulesu said that convention has passed a resolution to organise country-wide hartal (agitation) on March 10.

Vijayawada: G Obulesu, present State general secretary of AITUC, was unanimously elected as the National secretary for the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) at the three-day 41st National Convention concluded at Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu on Sunday.

Addressing a press conference at Dasari Nagabhushan Rao Bhavan here on Monday, Obulesu said that convention has passed a resolution to organise country-wide hartal (agitation) on March 10, if Centre fails to accept their 12 demands which includes accepting the recommendations of 15th Indian Labour Council and provide a minimum wage of Rs 18,000 per month to all classes of workers and pension of Rs 3,000 to be provided for the workers under unorganised sector, he said.

The AITUC leader also condemned the government for victimising those who raised their voice against BJP or the Sangh Parivar. He said that the AITUC would organise demonstrations and a convention in support of JNU students’ union leader Kanhaiya Kumar on March 20.

A workshop will be conducted for the youth in June to enlighten trade union acts and policies. Measures will be also taken by the union in creating awareness among the workers under unorganised sector to keep their interests alive, he said.

The AITUC State president Ch V Rama Rao, deputy general secretary R Ravindranath and State leader A Ranganayukulu were also present at the news conference.
