Hyderabad: In a significant development that would boost startups in Andhra Pradesh, the national industry body, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), is gearing up to establish a Centre of Excellence for Entrepreneurship at Amaravati, the upcoming capital city of the Telugu state. Besides, the industry body will also set up a university and trade centre in the new capital city near Vijayawada.

“We are in the process of finalising details for the Centre of Excellence and trade centre in collaboration with Andhra Pradesh government. We will come out the complete details on our projects within 15 days,” a senior official of CII AP told The Hans India.

A few months ago, CII Andhra Pradesh State Council mooted a proposal to set up Centre of Excellence in Entrepreneurship, trade centre and a university at Amaravati. The industry body sought 100 acres for these ventures. But AP government asked the CII to take its projects on a much bigger scale.

“We have submitted the proposals, but the government wanted us to take up the projects on a much larger scale. The Centre of Excellence planned at Amaravati will train people in entrepreneurship and innovation. The trade centre that CII will set up will obviously require large scale investments which are yet to be finalised,” said Suresh Chitturi, former chairman of CII AP, and Managing Director, Srinivasa Hatcheries Ltd.

Meanwhile, the industry body said a couple of days ago that it would set up CII University in Amaravati within a year as a part of its six-pronged strategy for building national competitiveness. “CII will set up the CII University in Amaravati, the designated new capital of Andhra Pradesh. It would also work with the government on taking 10 public and private universities to world class levels,” it said.

Various companies will come together to establish the world-class CII University which will initially focus on humanities and social sciences before adding technology and management courses. According to Naushad Forbes, the newly-elected president of CII, the new university which will be a full-fledged one will give more emphasis to humanities and social sciences.
