Pithapuram (East Godavari): Safeguarding the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre, the Andhra Pradesh Government Special Representative in Delhi Kambhampati Rammohan Rao on Saturday said here that the Union govt never said categorically not to confer the Special Category Status to this coastal state.
Speaking to media persons here, Rao accused the opposition parties for unnecessarily creating much hue and cry over the reply given by the Union Minister of State for Home Haribhai P Chaudhary on a Private Member’s Bill moved by Congress MP KVP Ramachandra Rao in the Rajya Sabha to get political mileage.
Praising the Union govt for already extending benefits as per the Special Category Status to this state, he said, “The Union govt is committed to implement all provisions of the AP Reorganization Act, 2014. The opposition parties which are hell bent on creating a rift between the BJP and TDP coalition are unnecessarily raking up the issue.’’ Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu visited Delhi several times in last two years and met the Prime Minister and other Union Ministers in order to fulfill all the promises made during the bifurcation of the State. Naidu also sought liberal financial assistance from the Centre for the construction of new capital at Amaravati and all-round development for the rest part. The Prime Minister also promised to fulfill all the recommendations made by the NITI Aayog pertaining to the economic development of AP, he said. Listing out the assurances fulfilled by the Centre, Rao claimed that Rs 3,500 crore has so far been provided to AP to fill its Rs 16,000 crore budget deficit. “Out of the 13 Central institutes allotted for the State, 11 have already come up. The multi-purpose Polavaram irrigation project will be completed by 2018,’’ he added.
Lauding the efforts of Naidu to put the state on top in economic growth across the country, he said that the TDP Government was able to attract thousands of crores of foreign investment for industrial development here. The government would promote balanced growth of all districts with aids from the Centre, he said.
Earlier, Rammohan Rao along with his wife visited Padagaya shrine. He was received with temple honours by Sri Kukkuteswara Swamy Devasthanam authorities and offered special prayers at the temple. Temple Executive Officer Chandaka Darababu, TDP leaders B Appa Rao and R Bhaskara Rao were present.
