Vijayawada: City Congress Committee angrily reacted on Saturday by torching the effigy of the Central government near Andhra Ratna Bhavan protesting against the remarks by the Union Minister of State for Home H P Chaudhury, who said on Friday in Rajya Sabha that the Andhra Pradesh does not require special category status. City Congress Committee president Malladi Vishnu, PCC official spokesperson Kolanukonda Sivaji, Youth Congress leader Devineni Avinash and other leaders and functionaries torched the effigy of the Central government. The Congress leaders denounced the statement of the Union Minister criticising that the BJP had made many pre-poll promises but failed to implement the special category status to Andhra Pradesh. The Congress leaders raised slogans in favour of special status, ‘We want special status’, ‘Down down BJP’, ‘BJP cheated the AP’ etc. Malladi Vishnu speaking on the occasion criticised that the Telugu Desam government was not strongly demanding for the special status to the Andhra Pradesh. He said the Congress would fight for the special status for the AP and appealed to the party workers to join the hands in the fight. He said Andhra Pradesh suffered huge loss as it was not accorded special status by the BJP Government.
