Hyderabad: The YSR Congress Party has got a shot in the arm with the unequivocal announcement on Friday by the Modi government that special status to Andhra Pradesh was not on cards.

YSRCP president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy has decided to sit on a three-day deeksha with the slogan ‘Save Krishna Delta’ from May 16 in protest against the failure of the AP government to put pressure on the Centre to get special status.

Announcing this here, Jagan alleged that Naidu’s statement that special status was not the panacea for development had resulted in diluting the issue and the BJP government has now decided not to give special status to the residuary state.

He said Naidu is not in a position even to serve an ultimatum to the Centre that he would withdraw his ministers if it failed to accord special status to the state since he was involved in the infamous cash-for-votes case.

“The Chief Minister has sold away the interests of the State. Both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu are playing with the lives of people,” he added. Jagan said that the deeksha was also to protest construction of new irrigation projects across the Krishna river by the Telangana government.

“Naidu has been silent and is scared of questioning the Telangana government on illegal drawing of water from Mahbubnagar curtailing the interests of AP as he was involved in cash-for-votes case,” Jagan said.

“The Telangana government is going ahead with Palamuru-Ranga Reddy and Dindi projects drawing away more than 115 TMC of water affecting irrigation in the Krishna delta,” he added.

The three-day deeksha is aimed at drawing the attention of the Prime Minister and Chief Ministers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh towards the injustice being meted out to the farmers of the state in water sharing, Jagan said.
