Vijayawada: With temporary secretariat works going on at fast pace and stage set for shifting of employees, the State government has set its eyes on providing temporary accommodation for the legislators.

According to highly placed sources, they are planning to construct a multi-storeyed residential complex at the State Guest House (SGH) premises. The Roads and Buildings department has submitted a proposal to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and is waiting for his clearance.

The old block of the State Guest House was built by the British, with two suite rooms and a conference hall in the ground floor and two suite rooms in the first floor. A new complex was constructed in the past in the same premises with over 20 suite rooms.

After bifurcation, the officials have renovated the new block of the guest house which is being used by bureaucrats. Now that the temporary Secretariat is set to function from the new capital from the end of June and the next Assembly session is likely to be held there, the Chief Minister decided to provide residential accommodation for the legislators during the sessions.

The sixth block of the Secretariat is exclusively being designed for the Assembly and Council halls besides the Chief Minister’s camp office, while the fifth block will be given to the Ministers, Chief Secretary and a couple of senior officers to establish their offices.

It is said that Naidu instructed the R & B officials to plan a new building in the place of old block of SGH. The officials have prepared plans for a huge complex with 12 floors spread over three acres of land. This would mean the existing workers quarters and the offices of social forestry, BC and minorities welfare, State Information Centre would be pulled down to accommodate the new complex.

Sources said that the new complex with 12 floors would have around 200 suite rooms to provide temporary accommodation for the MLAs and the MLCs at least during the Assembly sessions.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister asked all his Cabinet colleagues to find houses in the city or in Guntur. Few Ministers including, Minister for Finance Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, Minister for Health Dr Kamineni Srinivas, Excise Minister Kollu Ravindra have relocated to city, while others are on a look out.
