Vijayawada: The demand for apartments and multi-storied buildings in Vijayawada and surroundings increased during the past 15 days as the Chief Minister made it clear on the shifting of Secretariat employees by June 27. The officials of various departments started searching for suitable accommodation for their respective directorates in and around Vijayawada city.

An official said that they are searching for suitable accommodation for the past one week to set up the directorate of their department in Vijayawada city. This is not a lone case, officials of several other departments are also on the same job.

Meanwhile, some employees reached the city to search a suitable house as they have to start functioning from the new Secretariat building from June 27. An employee of the Secretariat, Srinivasa Rao, is searching for a two-room accommodation as he could not shift his family with grownup children.

A builder and CREDAI office-bearer RV Swamy said that enquiries have been on the rise for the past 15 days as the government decided on shifting of employees. He said more than 3,000 apartments are ready for occupation in and around Vijayawada city and officials started enquiring for lease of the apartments.

The CREDAI office-bearer said that there is no dearth of dwellings though more than 10,000 employees immediately shift to new capital. He said hundreds of apartments are ready for occupation in both Krishna and Guntur districts. He said that the CREDAI members informed Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu about the available accommodation in Krishna and Guntur districts and they are ready to extend cooperation to the government for providing accommodation to employees and offices.

Another official who prefers to be anonymous said that the demand for accommodation in Vijayawada city is increasing as majority of the heads of departments prefer to stay in the city. Meanwhile, some heads of departments are also planning to set up their headquarters in Vijayawada city for their convenience.
