Under a research project sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology, Prof Sireesh Saride of Department of Civil Engineering of IIT Hyderabad and his team has developed a sustainable road base material (fly ash treated RAP base, FRB) for long lasting Indian roads. The new road material has proved to be much stronger, durable and long lasting compared to the conventional Wet Mix Mecadam (WMM).

Andhra Pradesh Road Development Corporation (APRDC) Managing Director G Jagannadha Rao, who is also a member of the project, decided to build a road on trial basis to check the strength of the new material formulated under the Technology Systems Development Programme. The Nuzvid-Mylavaram road expansion project (State Highway - Road No 2213) was selected for the purpose.

BVR Constructions successfully completed the construction of test section of the road from 15.9 km to 16 km near Chandrala village under the supervision of Prof Sireesh and his team. The construction work was also coordinated by Krishna district R&B SE Seshu Kumar, Mylavaram division DEE Devendra Raju, AEEs Prasanna Kumar (Mylavaram) and P Suresh (Nuzvid). As part of the research project, Maheshbabu Jallu of IIT Hyderabad will study the test section of the road fitted with inclinometers and pressure gauges.
