Eluru: Local MLA Badeti Kota Rama Rao (Bujji) requested all political parties to cooperate for taking up road expansion in the city. He said due to the increase in vehicular population, the motorists have to use the existing road space which instead of witnessing an expansion was actually shrinking because of encroachments. Such a trend was resulting in chaos on roads, he added.
Efforts should be made to identify pockets that required new scheme roads, link roads and also to plan for the future needs in terms of flyovers as a long-term measure, he said. As an ad-hoc measure, eviction of encroachments and widening of roads need to get top-most priority so that motorists could breathe easy on city roads, he added.
The MLA pointed out that on one hand Chennai-Kolkata Railway Line and on the other Eluru-Krishna canal has been posing traffic problems.
He said that it was necessary to take up road expansion in the city. He said the roads from Clock Tower to Kanaka Durga Cut Pieces Centre were narrow. The MLA said earlier, the road was extended to some extent and if the new expansion is taken up, there would be no space for shops. In view of this, expansion of this road was stopped earlier, he added.
The MLA stated that Birla Bhavan Centre to Chataparru Road would be expanded in view of encroachments. He said about 12 shops would be demolished in road expansion and added that the shops would be shifted to Eastern Street.
He said road expansion would be taken up from Gajavallivari Cheruvu to Chataparru Road. He said the owners of the buildings whose houses and shops would be demolished as part of road widening, would be given alternative sites.
The MLA said Tangellamudi road would be expanded by removing encroachments and urged people to cooperate with Municipal Corporation. He said discussions are going on with the people in that area to remove encroachments.
