Vijayawada: A signature campaign was launched by BJP and the Krishna Parivahaka Prantha Nivasithula Parirakshana Committee at Krishnalanka here on Sunday, demanding construction of three subways in the area connecting to national highway.

Speaking on the occasion, the committee chairman Vasa Pallava Raju said that they were conducting the signature campaign with the aim of taking the issue to the notice of Union government.

The BJP and committee leaders would go to Delhi and meet Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and M Venkaiah Naidu and request them to settle the issue soon, he added.

Explaining the issue, he said that extension works of National Highway -65 were taken up as part of construction of Kankadurga flyover.

As many as 12 roads connecting National Highway had been demolished in the process of extension.

As a result, about 1.5 lakh population in the area are facing difficulty in entering the city for some months.

“Officials have decided to construct one subway in the area, which is insufficient to cater the needs of 1.5 lakh population.

We are fighting the officials for some months with a demand to construct at least three subways. But we have not get justice till now,”Pallva Raju said.

BJP national council member L R K Prasad said the people in the area, especially women and children were suffering from many problems because of demolition of roads.

Party State leaders PVP Prasad, Sk Mehaboob and others participated.
