Farm ponds boon to ryots: Collector Kona Sasidhar
The mission to launch 1 lakh farm ponds in the district was started in December 2015 and so far 50,000 farm ponds have been completed while another 50,000 are in different stages of completion. The Collector said that water stored in farm ponds would come to the rescue of the farmers looking for another bout of rain.
Anantapur: District Collector Kona Sasidhar has stated that the farm ponds dubbed as 'Panta Sanjeevani' will prove to be a boon to the farmers, who are now looking for rains to save their standing groundnut crops.
Addressing a workshop on 'Panta Sanjeevani' at Revenue Bhavan here on Tuesday, Sasidhar said that it is the Chief Minister's vision to drive out drought conditions through the farm ponds. About 4.8 lakh hectares are under groundnut cultivation in the district.

With the help of rain guns, water from farm ponds and borewells would be supplied to wet the dry crops. He said that a special mobile App for the groundnut crop had been launched with android version.
Farmers can know when exactly water is required for the crop with the help of laptops or smart phones,” he added. Joint Collector Sayed Basha, Joint Director of Agriculture Srirama Murthy, Minor Irrigation Corporation Project Director Venkateswarlu and other officials were present.
