Vijay Mohan held a meeting with the officials on ‘Vanam-Manam’ programme at Sunaina Auditorium here on Tuesday. Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that every official should take responsibility for planting saplings in their office premises.

The Collector instructed the District Educational Officer and Regional Inspection Officer to ensure the saplings are planted by students in the vacant places on July 29.

He informed officials that he would be taking up surprise checks on July 30. He warned to initiate action against the officials concerned if they failed to plant saplings in their offices.

He stated that no official took plantation drive seriously in the last one-and-a-half year even after repeated reminders. Expressing dissatisfaction over poor implementation of plantation drive, Vijay Mohan found fault with officials for not planting saplings in 100 days of rainy season.

He advised officials to plant trees on both sides of roads and at private offices, institutions, industries and in every vacant plot. The Collector instructed the nodal officers to organise rallies with students at mandal-level on creating awareness about planting saplings. The district official directed Anantapur Municipal Corporation Commissioner to identify suitable land for planting 20,000 trees.

He made an appeal to industrialists, liquor shop owners and the mining contractors to adopt villages and donate guards to trees. He asked the Heads of Departments to submit a requisition for saplings by July 28.

Kurnool MLA SV Mohan Reddy, Srisailam Project Special Collector Subba Reddy, District Revenue Officer Gangadhar Goud, District Forest Officer Savithri Bai, Revenue Divisional Officers of Kurnool, Adoni and Nandyal, District Water Management Agency Project Director Pulla Reddy, District Rural Development Agency Project Director Rama Krishna and other officials were present.
