Residents fume over mobile network generator in residential locality

​Chittoor: A huge generator installed by a mobile network company at Sanjay Gandhi Nagar and Journalist Colony is affecting the health of the residents due to the rise in pollution levels in the area.

Irrespective of power supply, the generator is being operated by the technicians particularly during the night time. The students of Social Welfare Hostels are bearing the brunt of unbearable noise created by the generator, as their hostels are next to it.

Several complaints have been lodged with the corporation officials to take stringent action against the management of the telecom company for installing the generator in the residential locality.

Due to release of harmful emissions and the radiation emitting from the generator in addition to unbearable noise, the residents are spending sleepless nights for the last few months.

Though Chittoor Municipal Corporation (CMC) Commissioner had issued a notice to the telecom firm to vacate from the residential area, there is no response from the management.

Speaking to The Hans India, vice-president of Journalist Colony Welfare Association R Chandraiah expressed anguish over the apathy of the authorities concerned in taking action against the telecom company for operating a huge generator from the residential area.

The telecom company should immediately shift the generator to industrial estate as it is a commercial unit. A representation was made to the CMC Commissioner, the District Collector and the Pollution Control Board earlier for action.

It is learnt that the said telecom firm is apparently managing the higher authorities from acting against it,” he decried. He said many of the children were frequently falling ill, especially suffering from bronchitis, lung infections and ENT problems due to polluted air.
