Atmakur (Kurnool): Even as the countdown begins for Krishna Pushkaralu, which are just 12 days away, the Medical and Health department is yet to send requisite medicines to 12 hospitals and 4 referral hospitals set up exclusively for the event. According to a conservative estimate, over one crore would take a holy dip in Krishna river at Sangameswaram and Srisailam.

Medicines are required to treat victims of road accidents that might take place on pushkar roads. The District Medical and Health department had placed an indent for 109 kinds of medicines. Besides, there is shortage of ambulances, 108 vans, stretchers, wheel chairs, oxygen connectors, ECG equipment and BP apparatuses. Against the requirement of drugs and disposables worth Rs 15 lakh, the district has only these worth Rs 5 lakh. The officials are not in a position to say when they will get the rest of the medicines.
