Kurnool: Heavy rains which lashed Kurnool on Tuesday night wreaked havoc in Meddikerra and Pathikonda mandals. Huge tracts of agriculture lands have been submerged. Due to continuous downpour, both Maddikerra and Burujula villages have received 8.7 cm of rainfall in a single night. Roads connecting Bengaluru via Adoni have become inaccessible, creating trouble for vehicular traffic. Meanwhile, Hundri Lake, which connects Pathikonda and Chinnahulthi, is overflowing, resulting in traffic coming to a standstill on both sides of the stream up to two kms.

Locals came together to help clear way for an ambulance, carrying a heart patient, stuck up in the maze of vehicular traffic.

Mandal Agriculture officer Kiran Kumar speaking to The Hans India said no crop were damaged due to heavy rains as the farmers are due to plant Bengal gram in the month of September. Due to heavy rain on the upper stream, he said that the water could have flown through the agriculture lands but there were no incidences of crop damage. “No complaints have been received from the farmers about crop damage,” he added. Farmers in Maddikerra and the surrounding areas would start sowing from the month of September.
