Visakhapatnam: Superintendent of Police Rahul Dev Sharma asked the police crack the whip against the drunken drivers in the district and initiate steps to contain road accidents.

Speaking at a crime review meeting here on Thursday, the Superintendent of Police enquired about the status of criminal cases in the district.

Sharma asked the police to complete the investigations immediately and hand over the accused to the court. He also enquired about the efforts put-in in nabbing the culprits who escaped from the Kasimkota police station.

Later, the Superintendent of Police felicitated eight police personnel, who retired from service recently, and presented cash prizes to nine children of police personnel who secured good marks in Intermediate and SSC exams.

The retired officials, who were felicitated, include S Ananda Rao SI, B Simhachalam, SI, A Satyanarayana, SI, T K Chandra Rao, ARSI, P Lakshmana Rao, ARSI, M Simhachalam, ARSI, S Ramanna Padhal, ASI and G Mohana Rao, head constable.

The merit children include Y Manideep (Intermediate) and N Sravani, B Sai Deepak, G Sai Tarun, G Gautam, K V Ramana, A Varun Kumar, D Sai Sandeep and B Anusha, all passed SSC. Sharma also handed over a cheque for Rs 1 lakh from the police union to the family members of Srihari Jones, ASI, who died recently, while working in Kasimkota police station.
