City Congress president and former MLA Malladi Vishnu came down heavily on the government saying that the government delayed the beginning of Pushkaralu works only for entrusting the contracts with Telugu Desam leaders.

A private company was awarded works worth about Rs 80 crore on nomination basis which was proof of the government’s corruption and neither the Chief Minister nor his Ministers responded on the allegations, said Vishnu.

He said that despite the works being awarded on a nomination basis, they were yet to be completed. CPM State Council member Ch Babu Rao said the government has undertaken 328 works for Pushkaralu and completed only 70 works to date.

The Irrigation department did not complete at least one work of the 110 works it took up, said Babu Rao. Alleging that there was huge corruption in the Pushkaralu works, he said the monitoring of works was centralized and even the municipal corporators had no idea on the ongoing works.

CPI City Secretary Donepudi Shankar said the authorities were not able to complete even 50 per cent of the works and there was no quality either. YSRCP leader Gotham Reddy said the government was giving a lot of publicity to Pushkaralu and creating hype among the public, merely for political benefits.

Former MLA and BJP leader Vellampalli Srinivas alleged the government was demolishing houses in the city in the name of Krishna Pushkaralu and not paying any compensation to the victims. Annapurna, representative of a voluntary organization, requested the government to provide information and guidance to voluntary organisations on the Pushkaralu programme.

Telugu Desam Party State Secretary G Ramakrishna refuted all the allegations and said one-third of the works have already been completed.

He said there was no scope for any irregularities as the Chief Minister was personally monitoring the works. TDP leaders Pattabhi, Siddam Nagendra Reddi, Vasavi Club representative Subbarao, representative of Suryashakthi Pvt Ltd Murthy and others participated in the debate. P Venkata Krishna, HMTV Editor (Debates and Discussions) conducted the programme.
