Speaking after the Gokulashtami celebrations on Thursday, the TTD EO said Go Pooja celebrated in all the 23 districts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to mark the significance of cow. 

Tirupati: TTD Executive Officer Dr D Sambasiva Rao said that the Sri Venkateswara Gosamrakshana Shala (SVGS) would soon be transformed into a national cow research centre.

Speaking after the Gokulashtami celebrations on Thursday, the TTD EO said Go Pooja celebrated in all the 23 districts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to mark the significance of cow.

He said that there were 2,636 animals in the SVGS in which top breeds like Ongole, Punganur, Kapila, Haryana, Kangayam, Dhiyoni, Hallikar, Umbaladari, Sahiwal and Rathi were reared. The 75 top breed cows have been shifted to the ultra modern Goshala being set up at Palamaner.

The TTD was committed to protect and preserve the holy cow and that the TTD's Gosamrakshana Trust had received Rs 81 crore donations so far, he added.

Earlier, Tirupati JEO Pola Bhaskar said that the milk produced by top desi breeds of cows had significant anti-infection and anti-disease qualities and similarly the cow dung and urine has great medicinal values and were already utilised in manufacture of many indigenous medicines.

The SVGS has been rendering great strides in cow protection and awareness campaign. Earlier, the TTD chairman Dr Chadalawada Krishnamurthy, Sambasiva Rao and Pola Bhaskar offered prayers to Sri Venugopalaswamy and also the Go Pooja and Harathi to cows.

The TTD EO also performed worshipping of the Sri Venkateswara Maha Mantra Peetham brought from Hyderabad to Tirupati by SV Maha Mantra Peetham president P Sai Reddy.

As part of the Gokulashtami traditions, the 14th edition of seven crore Govinda nama japa books were presented at the SV Maha Mantra Peetham. The TTD officials also launched the scripting of the 15th edition of the govinda nama books on the occasion.

As part of the celebrations of Gokulashtami, Annamayya Project organised the Nada Swara concert, Annamayya sankeertanas and the Dasa Sahitya project had organised the bhajans, kolatas etc.

Students from various schools of Tirupati also performed in various cultural programmes. The Harikatha parayanams were also conducted by the Hindu Dharma Prachara Parishad. SVGS director Dr K Harinath Reddy and others were present.
