Kakinada: With civic body polls round the corner and the main Opposition party, the YSRCP, making all-out efforts to prove its mantle, differences are said to have surfaced in the party leadership in Kakinada city between former MLA Dwarampudi Chandrasekhar Reddy and Mutta Sashidhar, party city coordinator and close aide of party chief YS Jagan.Dwarampudi who served as MLA for one term, lost in the 2014 polls in a closely contested election to the TDP. Since then, he has been maintaining low profile.

But the subsequent visit of YS Jagan to East Godavari and the entry of former Kakinada rural MLA Kurasala Kannababu, who played a crucial role in the formation of PRP and a close associate of its founder Chiranjeevi, and former Minister and four-time MLA, Mutta Gopalakrishna and his son Mutta Sashidhar, are said to have brought the much needed fillip to the party activities in Kakinada. Kannababu in fact, has been elevated to district party chief.

Jagan is believed to have taken this decision considering the caste equations in Godavari districts as the party has virtually no representation at the senior level with former Minister Kothapalli Subbarayudu going back to the TDP fold.

Against this backdrop, the YSRCP has undertaken the ‘Gadapa Gadapaku’ (door-to- door) campaign in both city and rural constituencies to highlight the failures of the ruling party in the implementation of its election promises and on various other fronts.

While Sashidhar is leading the campaign in the city, Kannababu is spearheading the same in Kakinada rural constituency. Conspicuous by their absence are Dwarampudi and his followers, which is considered to be a sort of setback to the campaign and party.

It is said that the YSRC cadre in the city constituency are said to be keeping away from the activity as their leader was not assigned with any important portfolio in the organisation after the poll-debacle in the last elections. District party chief however denied reports of a rift within the organisation.
