Amaravati: Minister for Water Resources Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao said that the government would take steps to save withering crops and added that it will supply sufficient power to the agriculture pump sets. He inaugurated his chambers in the temporary Secretariat at Velagapudi on Sunday.

Speaking to reporters, he informed that the State will get water as Krishna River Board decided to release water. He said that the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu linked Krishna and Godavari rivers and the government is maintaining 12-feet level water at Krishna Barrage.

He assured that the government would complete the construction of the multi-purpose Polavaram Project within two-years. He reminded that the government was supplying sprinklers, rain guns and oil engines to the farmers to save the crops. He said that he was happy to work from the temporary Secretariat at Velagapudi.

Later, Narasaraopet MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao met the Minister and requestedhim to give necessary instructions to take up Anupu Lift Irrigation Scheme works. Reacting to the request, Uma Maheswara Rao said that he would ensure completion of the project within a week and directed the engineering officials to lay 2-km power lines to the project immediately. The MP also sought Rs 40 crore funds for lift irrigation works at Dharmavaram village.
