Locals rushed to the rescue of passengers and shifted them to a safe place. 

Kurnool: Heavy rains lashed several parts of the district on Monday night. Many streams and lakes overflowed in villages and boulders rolled down onto the roads near Srisailam Dam, bringing movement of vehicles to a standstill. Around 38 mandals in the district received good rainfall.

Sham Kaluva in Nandyal is also overflowing and flood waters entered in many areas. Banana plantation crops were submerged at Mahanandi. Around 162.4 mm of rainfall was recorded at Nandyal and Gospad.

Addressing a meeting here on Tuesday, Collector Ch Vijay Mohan informed that 5 mm of rainfall was received in 46 mandals. He said that Revenue officials shifted the residents in low-lying areas to safe places.

He said that crops in hundreds of acres were submerged in the flood waters. Nippula and Kakileru streams are flowing above the danger level at Parumanchala village in Jupadu Bungalow, he added.
