Chittoor: As per the instructions of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, four State Ministers visited drought-hit mandals in the district on Thursday. The prolonged dry spell across the State had serious impact on standing crops and drew the attention of the State government. The government immediately swung into action and distributed rain guns, and had been taking all steps to protect crops from withering.

Home Minister N Chinarajappa visited Kalakada and Gurramkonda mandals and monitored the distribution of rain guns and other farm equipment to farmers in Gopalapuram and Rathibandapalli villages.

Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana visited Koripalli and SR Puram mandal while Transport Minister Sidda Raghava Rao toured villages in Yadamari and Thavanampalli mandals. Forests and Environment Minister Bojjala Gopalakrishna Reddy visited Vedurukuppam and Karvetinagar mandals and interacted with farmers.

It may be mentioned here that nine IAS officers have been drafted for visiting the drought-hit mandals in the district. They accompanied the Ministers in their tour programme and oversaw the distribution of rain guns, sprinklers, oil engines and HDPE pipes.

Addressing a press conference at the Collectorate here on Thursday, Minister Narayana instructed the officials to extend all possible help to farmers. He said groundnut crop in 84,540 hectares in the district were protected from withering with the timely distribution of rain guns.

The Minister said steps were taken to save groundnut crop in 11 Assembly segments. He informed that 1,693 rain guns, 1,878 sprinklers, 505 oil engines and 39,990 HDPE pipes were distributed to farmers. He said that 17 MLAs from across the State will visit the district on Friday to study the usage of rain guns to tackle dry spell.

Minister Sidda Raghava Rao said that confidence has been instilled in farmers as the government came to their rescue in the time of need.Collector Siddharth Jain, ZP chairperson Girvani Chandra Prakash, TDP district president Srinivasulu and others were present.
