Nellore: Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan said that the State would become fuel capital of India, if it could tap oil resources from KG Basin. He was addressing a meeting organised by Swarna Bharat Trust to celebrate its 15th anniversary, here on Sunday.

Speaking on occasion, the Union Minister said that the Centre had fulfilled three promises made to the State. “Petroleum varsity is coming up, while expansion works are going on at HPCL refinery in Vizag. In addition to these, petro-chemical complex in Vizag will be a reality soon,” he stated and added that the State would be getting investments to the tune of Rs 52,000 crore for various development projects.

Pradhan asserted that KG Basin has rich resources and they could be tapped to make State a hub for fuel production. “AP got 80 per cent of LPG connections under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) scheme and the remaining 20 per cent of connections will be sanctioned soon,” he informed.

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, who accompanied the Union Minister, gave a clarion call for ‘Beti padao, Beti ko aage badao’. “It is time to support girls, not only in education but also in sporting activities too.

The recent stellar show by the women at Rio Olympics indicates that it is time to encourage and support girls in sports,” she added. Stating that Olympic silver medallist P V Sindhu was star of the whole nation, she lauded the efforts Sakshi Malik, Sania Mirza and Saina NehwalPraising the services of badminton coach Pullela Gopichand, the Speaker said he spread his talent to four corners like a ‘fully blossomed flower’. Mahajan also appreciated efforts of the Union minister M Venkaiah Naidu for establishing Swarna Bharat service trust and helping the rural people.

P V Sindhu and Pullela Gopichand were felicitated on the occasion. The school children performed cultural activities. BJP State president Dr K Haribabu, MPs Gokaraju Gangaraju, Vara Prasada Rao, MLCs Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy, V Narayana Reddy, district collector R Mutyala Raju and others were present.
