Visakhapatnam: The three-day BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) summit on urbanization, which will begin here from Wednesday, will deliberate on the transition and challenges they face in urbanisation.

The conference will be inaugurated by Union Minister for Urban Development Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation M Venkaiah Naidu. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will deliver the keynote address.

The summit will also discuss issues like climate change, sanitation management, smart cities, financing urban infrastructure and inclusive housing. The conference will discuss how to increase the productivity, how to make a separate urban finance system and creation of employment opportunities.

Besides 100 delegates from BRICS, 400 delegates from various places across the country will attend the conference.

Chief Secretary SP Tucker, joint secretaries of Union Urban Development Ministry B Anand and Alok Dimri said that Visakhapatnam declaration would be announced at the concluding ceremony of the conference.

This is the third international meeting the city is hosting after successful Partnership Summit and International Fleet Review.

Russian and Brazilian delegates have already arrived in the city. The police have made elaborate security arrangements for the meeting and the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation has spruced up the beach road and tourist spots in Vizag.
