Visakhapatnam: Motorcycle expedition to north-east region, being organised under the aegis of Eastern Naval Command, was flagged off from Shillong by Commandant of Assam Regimental Centre Brigadier SK Jha on Saturday.

Earlier, the expedition was given a warm send off by Vice Admiral HCS Bisht, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, ENC before their departure from Visakhapatnam. The expedition team comprises nine officers from various units of Eastern Naval Command led by Captain Ashok Sharma.

The expedition, which started from Shillong (Meghalaya) would reach Aizawl (Mizoram) through Agartala (Tripura) covering a distance of about 2000 km in a span of 12 days, riding across hilly terrain, treacherous roads and hostile weather, through thick jungles and grassy plains.

The changes in altitude, coupled with diurnal variations of temperature will be a test of the team’s grit and mental strength. During the expedition, these naval personnel will reach out to the youth of the North Eastern region and create awareness about the Navy by interacting with them and present the armed forces as a career choice. The team will also address the students in various colleges and universities en route and distribute naval publicity material.
