Amaravati: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu urged students to understand the ground realities in agriculture sector and do research to reduce cost of production to make cultivation viable. He stressed on need to increase food production.

Naidu addressed the 48th annual convocation of Acharya N G Ranga Agriculture University (ANGRAU) at Bapatla Agriculture College on Monday.

He opined that there was no co-ordination between universities and institutions as far as agriculture sector is concerned. He urged agriculture students to interact with farmers and ensure that cost of agriculture is reduced. He asked them to focus on research to reduce the cost of cultivation and make farming viable.

He said that the State government is providing modern machinery to reduce cost of production in agriculture. He urged the farmers to use machines and modern technology to reduce cost of production. He reminded the steps taken by the government to extend helping hand to the farmers.

He stated that the country has been facing agrarian crisis and asked agriculture scientists to resolve the problems in the farming sector by inventing innovative farming methods.

He said that the State had set 185 lakh metric tonnes of food grains production during the current year. He explained that though there is two crore acres of cultivable land in the State, irrigation water is being provided to only 1.04 crore acres.

He said an action plan is being prepared to provide irrigation water to the tail-end lands. The Chief Minister gave away degree certificates to the 995 students. Acharya N G Ranga Agriculture University officials felicitated Naidu on the occasion. Earlier, the Chief Minister unveiled a pylon for development of Bapatla Agriculture College at a cost of Rs 153 crore.

Agriculture Minister Prathipati Pulla Rao, Agriculture Principal Secretary and N G Ranga Agriculture University Vice-Chancellor P Vijay Kumar, other staff members and officials were present.
