Kakinada: Fields are continuing to submerge in the delta and upland areas in East Godavari district even after three days of relief from heavy rains. According to agriculture department authorities in total 2,555 hectares were submerged in the district as per preliminary assessment.

Of this, paddy tops the list with 1,187 hectares, followed by black gram in 920 hectares and cotton in 376 hectares. Other crops like green gram (52 hectares) and red gram (17 hectares) were also submerged.

According to JD agriculture K S V Prasad, authorities were able to assess the losses financially after water receded from the fields. In this connection AP Vyavasaya Karmika Sangam agriculture workers association president Dadala Subba Rao appealed to the State government to review the losses after water recedes. He directed officials to help both farmers and farm workers by giving financial aid.
