Eluru: A Bill Gates Melinda Foundation team on Thursday visited Kovvali village in Denduluru mandal to study the implementation of Aadhaar-linked online services to the villagers. The team consisting of nine members along with District Rural Development Agencies (DRDA) Project Director K Srinivas went to Kovvali village and inspected the sanction of pensions and E-PoS through Aadhaar linkage.

They also observed the distribution of ration and fertilisers through online in the village. During their visit, the foundation team interacted with farmers, pensioners and white ration cardholders. The Project Director and other officials explained the team about the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) works and digital literacy through a power point presentation at Motaparthi Bhavan in the village. He said the team that for the first time in the State, the Digital Literacy programme is being implemented in West Godavari district.

He explained the team on the working performance of self-help groups (SHGs) through androids and added that three types of examinations are being conducted for 1.40 lakh SHG members.

The foundation members enquired about the number of smartphones with the SHG groups, farmers, pensioners and others and they also found about how many people are conducting the online banking through smartphones. They also enquired about the Aadhaar, bank account, gas connections and ATM facilities to each person.

The team showed enthusiasm on the ration distribution and asked beneficiaries of whether they require ration or money. The beneficiaries who attended the programme said the team that they want only ration.

The Project Director explained to the team members that 99.95 per cent Aadhaar seeding was completed in the district and the remaining five per cent was not done as those people went out of the district. Later the Bill Gates foundation team visited Andhra Bank branch in the village and enquired about the e-subsidy system in the bank.

The bank has been distributing pensions online to 2.60 lakhs beneficiaries in the district out of 3.40 lakh beneficiaries, said the Project Director and added that the remaining members would get a pension of Rs 1,000 per month through biometric system. The Project Director explained that Kovvali was selected as a pilot project in the district for the Aadhaar-linked online services.

Joint Director of Agriculture Y Sai Lakshmeswari said the members that the fertilisers were also distributed through an online system in the district, which was selected as a pilot project by the Central government along with Krishna district.

The dealers will have to indent how much of fertiliser is needed for farmers during the season through online and also impart training to farmers about the usage of fertilisers in the farmlands. She told the team members that steps for getting higher yield with minimal use of fertilisers have been taken up in the district. The team visited fair price shop number 37 in the village and examined the distribution of ration.
