Visakhapatnam: The entire stretch of beach front from RK Beach to Bhimili will have a new look in a year or two for which the government has earmarked Rs 16 crore for the first phase to develop eight beaches.Giving details of the project, HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao, who inaugurated beach shacks at Thotlakonda beach built at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore here on Saturday, said since RK Beach is getting crowded with local people and tourists throughout the year, plans were prepared to divert them to other beaches considered to be safe. RK Beach has also been proved to be dangerous with most of the drowning cases reported there.

The beach fronts include Lawson’s Bay, Yarada, Sagarnagar, Endada, Revupolavaram, Mangamaripeta, Rushikonda and Mutyalammapalem.
He said an amount of Rs 300 crore would be spent for Rushikonda, said to be popular next to RK Beach, Rs 150 crore each would be spent for Revupolavaram and Mangamaripeta. Lawson’s Bay, Rushikonda and Revupolavaram beach works would be completed soon and opened for the public, the Minister said.

He said since Endada and Sagarnagar beaches come under reserve forest area and entangled in high court cases, works were going on slow. Tender process is on for Yarada beach development and very soon an agency would be finalised for development.Along with the beach fronts, parks and ecotourism will also be developed. The zoo will get a new look and adventure sports would be opened up in Kambalakonda wild sanctuary,’’ the Minister said.

He said in order to popularise tourist spots, three festivals were being conducted this year. Bhimili beach festival would be held for three days from December 8. Inaugural function would be held on December 8, second day events would be held at Mutyalammapalem and concluding day function would be held at Revupolavaram on December 10.Similarly, Araku festival would be held for three days from November 18 and Visakha Utsav from January 13, next year, the Minister added.
