Eluru: Eluru MLA Badeti Kota Rama Rao said that the seven bathing ghats on Eluru Krishna Canal will be renovated to keep them ready for devotees during the month of Karthikam. He along with Eluru Municipal Corporation Commissioner Yarra Saye Srikanth visited the Krishna canal bunds in Powerpet area on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, the MLA said that during the auspicious month of Karthikam, hundreds of devotees have a holy dip in the early hours and this tradition has been continuing over decades. However, at present the Krishna canal did not receive sufficient water.
In view of the prevailing situation, it was decided to supply water from Eluru Godavari Canal through a pipeline and shower baths would be arranged on these seven ghats, he added. He directed the Commissioner to construct rooms for women. Eluru Mayor Sheikh Noorjahan who followed MLA directed officials to clean the bathing ghats of the canal bund. Municipal Engineer G Pradeep Kumar, Deputy Executive Engineer R Subba Rao and Cooption member SMR Pedababu also participated.
