Shakeera to spice up Vizag Beach Love Festival

​Visakhapatnam: The famed pop star Shakeera is poised to add aesthetic beauty to the Vizag beach with her scintillating performance for three days in February during the Beach Love Festival.

Of course, the event is also likely to raise the hackles of women activists opposing Shakeera, who is viewed as an ambassador for transport foreign culture.

Positive Global Services and Consultancy of Mumbai are the organizers of the festival. Representatives of this company have already visited Erramatti Dibbalu, Sagarnagar and Thotla to select a 10 acre site to hold the mega event festival fun and frolic.

She has five MTV music awards, two Grammy awards to her credit, According to the organizers, over 9,000 couples descending from across the globe, will merrily sing and dance along with Shakira and enthral the fun-seekers. The Beach Festival is scheduled to happen soon after the Partnership summit-2.

The festival will be jointly held by Department of Youth Affairs, Tourism Department and Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will be the chief guest.

Rock shows by eminent singers of global repute, food festival, beauty contests, cultural events by the Hollywood, Bollywood and stars from southern India would form the mega festival.

An officer from tourism department said sports and games would be held in a big way and well known sports persons have been invited.

“The face of Vizag beach will undergo a radical change with this event. All the foreign couples would live in colourful tents on the beach and participate in the events in the evening.

Shakeera is expected to entertain all the three days,’’ the official said and added that invitations have been sent to youth organizations and event managers of many foreign countries.

He said the most attractive event, other than Shakeera show, would be pyrotechnics. The entire sky would be lit up on the concluding day of the Lovers Festival. Such festivals in the name of tropical beach lovers’ festivals are held regularly in Japan.

However, leaders and activists of various women’s organizations have planned to oppose the proposed Festival.

POW president M Lakshmi said they would oppose the western ways of displaying affection of love and alleged that HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao has been trying to spoil the culture and tradition by promoting alcohol, obscenity and nude dances in the public.

“Such festivals will lead to decay of the society which has already begun with cheap promotional events held in the name of tradition and culture,’’ Lakshmi said.
