Puttaparthi (Anantapur): Minister for IT and Minorities Welfare Palle Raghunatha Reddy described the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) as a prospective lifeline project which has the capacity to turn the district into a lush green and prosperous one.

Speaking at the project site after inspecting the works between Bukkapatnam and Buchayyagaripalle and Chandrayenipalle tunnel works reviewed the same with the contractors and called upon the executive agencies to complete project works within the stipulated time.

He said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is also reviewing the progress himself as he is keen to supply water to all the village tanks and lakes to boost groundwater table in the district. The Minister said that the when two phases of the project are completed, it will irrigate 3.45 lakh acre of crop lands. He said that 90 per cent of the project in phase 1 has been completed, while nearly 70 per cent of the phase two works have also been finished. Presently, the 2.1 km long tunnel works are on at a cost of Rs 30 crore.

All lining works will be completed by June and railway clearance at one location will be given in another 3-4 months. Bukkapatnam, the largest tank in Rayalaseema will be filled up once the project is completed. Besides, 120 village tanks in six mandals will also get water. Odacheruvu, Amadaguru and Nallamada mandals which are in higher altitude will also get water by lift irrigation. The works from Jeedipalle to Gollapude reservoir will also be completed in three months, he said.
