4 medals to Chittoor in state-level boxing contest

Tirupati: Boxers from Chittoor district bagged four bronze medals in the state-level senior boxing competitions (18-35) organised by AP Boxing Association in Visakhapatnam from November 3 to 6. It was for the first time the boxers from the district participating in the senior boxing competitions.

Interestingly, two junior boxers took part in the senior-level competition and trounced seasoned senior boxers, according to coach B Surendra Babu.'In a release here on Tuesday, Surendra Babu, who is working as PET at Yerracheruvupalle ZP High School in Puthalapattu mandal said Kiran Kumar (23), a B Tech student of Chadalavada Engineering College, won bronze medal in the welterweight (65-69 kgs) category while J Balakrishna (20), a student of SV Defense College in the city got bronze medal in heavy weight (81-91 kgs) category.

The other two who bagged bronze medal in the senior boxing competition include TK Nikhil (16) studying Intermediate in Emeralds College here in the super heavy weight (91 plus kgs) and Sravanthi, a student of government junior college (16), in the light heavy weight (70-75 kgs) category.

Nikhil and Sravanthi, who are junior boxers fought with the seniors and won medals bringing laurels to the district.

Nikhil had won medals four times including gold in the state-level sub-junior competitions while Sravanthi also got silver medal in the state-level junior-boxing competitions.

Surendra Babu, who has avid interest in promoting boxing and imparting training to players, has accompanied them to the state-level boxing competition to win medals.
