Guntur: Police on Monday arrested a host of leaders from YSRCP and Left parties, who led protest against the Centre’s failure to tackle cash crunch post demonetisation move. Despites the rank and file of the Opposition parties enthusiastically took part in the ‘Aakrosh Divas’ - nation-wide protest; it evoked a mixed response in the district.

All educational institutions remained closed as a precautionary measure. Banks, insurance companies and government offices worked as usual. The APSRTC plied buses and normal life largely remained unaffected. Police security beefed up security at all important centres to avoid untoward incidents.

Leaders and activists of Left parties attempted to bus the movement of buses from bus stand, here but it was foiled by the police. Later, they took out a rally from I Town to Brodipet Flyover passing through GMC office and Hindu College.

While protesting in Brodipet, the police arrested CPI State joint secretary Muppalla Nageswara Rao and party leaders Ajay Kumar and Malyadri, CPM leader Pasam Rama Rao and took them to Arundapalepet Police Station.

Similarly, YSRCP city president Lella Appi Reddy and leader Kilari Rosaiah have been shifted to Nagarampalem police station. Later, they were released on bail.

Earlier, addressing the gathering Muppalla Nageswara Rao criticised that the Centre failed to make alternative arrangements, as a result the people were facing lot of problems. He demanded that the Centre should release sufficient Rs100 notes.

Lella Appi Reddy also echoed the same. He lashed out at the Union government and said that it was shame that even after 15 days after banning Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes, the government failed to solve the woes of the people.
