Guntur: Communist Party of India leaders staged a dharna at Dr B R Ambedkar statue here in protest against increase in attacks on Dalits, Muslims and minorities after the BJP came to power at the Centre.

They raised slogans against the Centre for its failure to check attacks on minorities and Dalits and condemned the
attacks.

Addressing the gathering, CPI State assistant secretary Muppalla Nageswara Rao said that over 500 Dalits and minorities died in the attacks and over 5,000 families migrated to different places since the BJP government came to power.

He urged the Centre to stop attacks on minorities. He extended his support to Dalits and minorities.

CPI district secretary J Ajay Kumar alleged that the BJP government is trying to cause rift among the Dalits, Muslims and other minorities. He alleged that BJP is using Hinduism to gain political mileage. He warned that if the Centre fails to check the attacks, they would intensify their agitation.

Earlier, the party activists took out a rally from Sankar Vilas Centre to Ambedkar statue in Brodipet. CPI city secretary K Malyadri, Andhra Pradesh Prajanatyamandali president Gani, AITUC leaders Veluguri Radhaka Krishna Murthy and CPI leader Sambasiva Rao were among those present.
