Vijayawada: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director General (DG) RP Thakur on Friday launched Whatsapp number 8333995858 to receive complaints from the public against officials seeking bribes on the eve of International Anti-Corruption Day function being held at RTC house conference hall.
The ACB whatsapp number became active, the next second it was launched. ‘The intention of the ACB is to receive more genuine complaints with proofs from the victims who have been facing pressures from corrupt government officers,’ he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Thakur said that fight against the corruption is meant to make the State corruption-free. The United Nations Organisation (UNO) declared December 9 as International Anti-Corruption Day, he said. “Corruption is hampering the development of State as well maligning the image of the government,” he added.
Thakur seeks co-operation of the people to root out corruption and asked them to spread awareness about the same. Corruption would be eradicated with the support of youth since they are the backbone of the nation, he said.
The DG assured instant action against corrupt officials once the complaint is received on whatsapp number. “I will carry the whatsapp number in my pocket and already it has started receiving complaints from the people with photos, videos. Feedback is also sent to complainants on action taken , ” he pointed out.
Later, Thakur felicitated best complainants Mettupalem Phalanivelu (Vizianagaram), Dakshiraju Subba Raju (Puttaparthi), Tammineni Ramaiah (Srikakulam) and C Pullaiah (Kurnool) and also distributed prizes to students who participated and won the prizes in essay writing and elocution competitions.
ACB Additional Director Abraham Lincoln, Chief Legal Adviser K Basavaah and Central Zone Joint Director Nagendra Kumar attended the function.
