Third CNG project on anvil in Kakinada
With the decks cleared for two LNG projects the promoters of GMR gearing up to fulfill the formalities to get the necessary clearance for grounding the Rs 950 crore LNG project.

Kakinada: With the decks cleared for two LNG projects the promoters of GMR gearing up to fulfill the formalities to get the necessary clearance for grounding the Rs 950 crore LNG project.
Of the first two joint venture unit of GAIL, Shell and Andhra Pradesh Gas Distribution Authority Limited of State government got clearness for establishing 6 MMCMD project in last quarter of the year 2014 and the second one Krishna Godavari LNG project Limited completed its public herring during November 2015 and now awaiting for the final nod for the 7.5 MM CMD capacity terminals in two phases of 3.75 MM CMD capacity each.
These two will be setting up floating LNG terminals offshore of Kakinada Port about 20 kilometers from the shore.
These two also said to have obtained clearance for site in Port area for the onshore terminals for transporting the CNG to various destinations.
As far as the third one, The GMR CNG project is concerned, the 1.75 MMCMD project will have its terminal in Kakinada Sea Ports Limited [KSPL] by the side of its 7th berth in the premises. The GMR will utilise GAIL pipeline network to cater to the needs of various companies.
It will opt for tankers specially designed to carry the natural gas to cater to the needs of those who do not have pipeline facility up to their units.
The GMR authorities are expecting the necessary environment clearance in the next two months by February 2017 and making arrangements to complete the grounding process within 13 months time from the date of clearance.
With as many as 19 power plants including the three under GMR management apart from the three fertilizer units and other consumers in need of gas, the three LNG projects are expected to cater to their 100 percent needs.
It is said that the gas requirement of power plants and other units are being fulfilled 20 to 25 percent of their total requirement at present.
The GMR representative Srimanth Reddy said that apart from catering to the needs of their two power plans at Vemagiri in Rajamahendravaram suburbs and for the 210 MW floating power plant on sea waters off Kakinada coast , the LNG unit coming into existence will supply natural gas by using the necessary conversion process to the needy he said.
