Eluru: Eluru MLA Badeti Kota Ramarao (Bujji) said that soon the city is to be free from pig menace.

He inspected the catching of pigs at various areas in the city by a special team that has come from Chennai on Monday. Speaking to the media, the MLA said that sufficient time had been given to pig breeders to stop breeding pigs. However, they continue to ignore repeated warnings, he said. In order to ensure cleanliness in the city, specialists from Chennai have been deployed to the city to weed out pig menace, he added.

Henceforth, pig catching will be taken up every fortnight in the city, he said. He asked the pig breeders to cooperate with the Eluru Municipal Corporation and breed their pigs at city outskirts where there are no habitats. He directed police to open criminal cases against the pig breeders who violate the Corporation orders. The Chennai special team visited Kummari Revu, Ashok Nagar Bridge area, Tammileru, and grabbed the pigs in the nets. About 300 pigs have been grabbed in the nets and shifted to Chennai area. Health officer Dr Surya Rao and others accompanied the MLA during the latter’s inspection.
