Nellore: Several ATMs have drained up in the city on Tuesday after RBI had enhanced withdrawal limit to Rs 10,000 in a day.

City residents have faced difficulties to get cash from ATMs. In fact, ATMs belonging to many bank branches are dispensing cash.

But, majority ATMs are still dispensing Rs 2,000 and Rs 100 notes while banks are distributing Rs 500 notes to customers if they personally visit bank to withdraw cash.

There are 418 bank branches in the district with 443 ATMs. Majority of these ATMs were either running out of cash or overcrowded for the last two-and-a-half months.

Banks began dispensing Rs 500 notes to customers with the RBI increasing cash flow.

Customers are feeling happy as they can draw Rs 10,000 at a time without visiting the branch or standing in queues despite there is no change in upper limit of Rs 24,000 per week.

“We are happy for getting Rs 10,000 at a time from ATM,” said K Venkateswara Rao from KVR Petrol bunk area.

Interestingly, several shops with huge turnover in Stonehousepet are not using Point of Sale (PoS) machines for encouraging digital transactions.

“We don’t have a PoS machine and still waiting from the bank. We are now accepting only cash or through Paytm transfers,” said a popular trader located close to Atmakur bus stand flyover.

Some shops are not accepting cash transfers through mobile apps.

Gas dealers are also still collecting cash from the consumers and not maintaining PoS machines even though the district administration warned them to take up digital transactions.
